Mining Geomechanics @ WASM
Mining geomechanics is a key branch of mining engineering required to develop safe and economical mines considering the ground conditions. Specialists in this field are required for developing and operating both underground and open pit mines. It requires knowledge of mining geology, mine planning, mining methods as well as economic, legal, and regulatory environments.
Most students entering our Master of Engineering Science (Mining Geomechanics) and Graduate Certificate in Mining Geomechanics programs are mid-career resource sector professionals. They are aiming to broaden their skills to move into more senior management or decision-making roles. We seek to do this by providing high-quality industry-focused course materials, together with an opportunity to interact with experienced Australian and international faculty members, as well as to network with their peers.
Our mining geomechanics program, which commenced in 1997 with the appointment of an industry chair has now produced many graduates who excel in Australian and overseas mining organisations. We are also developing links with South American countries such as Chile.
