Each year WASM runs a 4 day event called Focus on Mining which is aimed at Year 12 TEE students who are considering studying mining related courses at university. Consisting of a 4 day camp in Kalgoorlie during the mid-year school holidays, this all-expenses-paid experience introduces participants to the mining industry and what it has to offer. During the camp, students tour operational mine sites, participate in hands-on workshops on campus, meet lecturers, current students and mining industry leaders, and enjoy a range of social activities. The local mining industry contributes to the cost of this event meaning that all airfares, accommodation, food and other expenses are completely covered.
