The Western Australian School of Mines has been one of Australia's leading mining education providers since 1902. WASM graduates are highly sought after by industry and consistently receive amongst the highest starting salaries of any graduates in Australia with virtually a 100% employment rate.

WASM offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Mining Engineering, Minerals Engineering and Extractive Metallurgy, Spatial Sciences, Mining and Applied Geology, Exploration Geophysics and Mineral Economics.

Since 1969, WASM has been a branch of Curtin University of Technology, one of Western Australia's most prestigious universities.

Focus on Mining

Each year WASM runs a 4 day event called Focus on Mining which is aimed at Year 12 TEE students who are considering studying mining related courses at university. Consisting of a 4 day camp in Kalgoorlie during the mid-year school holidays, this all-expenses-paid experience introduces participants to the mining industry and what it has to offer. During the camp, students tour operational mine sites, participate in hands-on workshops on campus, meet lecturers, current students and mining industry leaders, and enjoy a range of social activities. The local mining industry contributes to the cost of this event meaning that all airfares, accommodation, food and other expenses are completely covered.

Applications are currently open for the 2008 Focus on Mining which will be held between July 14 -18. We are looking for students who:

are in Year 12
are studying TEE Science and Maths subjects
intend to study at university
have an interest in working in the mining industry
